Dryer Lint Build Up

When was the last time you opened up your dryer? I don’t mean opening the door to shove in some clothes. I’m not even talking about the lint trap. I’m talking "take-your-dryer-apart" opened up.
For most of us, the answer is never.
This customer reached out because her dryer was no longer drying efficiently. This Speed Queen unit actually did need a heating element replaced. One thing Mr. Repair noticed, however, was excess lint in the dryer cabinet. The excess lint in the dryer cabinet indicated a possible restriction in the dryer vent hose. In this situation, the unit vented underneath a deck and there was significant lint in the vent cap. This restriction likely contributed to the failure of the heating element.
I have a few of takeaways for you.
-First, you should always clean your lint screen between dryer sessions. I know I am often tempted to skip this step.
-Second, if you can access the cap of your vent (located on an outside wall), check it frequently to be sure it is clear of lint and also clear of dirt or animal debris. A damaged cap can allow animals to seek shelter or even build nests.
-Third, schedule an appliance maintenance package with us! Mr. Repair can come to you and clean out your dryer cabinet!
-Finally, Mr. Repair may suggest having a dryer vent cleaning company come out to help you with vent hoses longer than 8 feet or access that is complicated.
A damaged heating element can be inconvenient, but a dryer fire is nothing to mess around with. Please be sure you are taking good care of your dryer so it can take good care of you!
